Whale Watching Hervey Bay

Welcome to Hervey Bay Whale Watching capital of the world. Tours are conducted aboard commercial vessels with experienced crews in superb conditions & this is available to families with young children, elderly & disabled people. We have 10 Whale Watching vessels with different prices & time to suit your needs.

For most a day spent on a whale watching vessel is a brand new experience. To see a whale breach is a sight nobody will ever forget, where 45tons of whale will propel itself almost clear out of the water, by merely a few flicks of its tail. You’re going to see the fifth largest animal that ever lived on this planet. In the wild, not a cage to perform at a certain time. You’ll see Humpback whales in their natural environment & you will not be disappointed.

What are you looking for?…
Firstly you look for the blow, where the whales breathes out the massive amount of dry air in their lungs at a speed of 400km per hour! This appears as a puff of crystals, when looking in the sun or a rain could away from the sun. You’re also looking for a black dorsal fin, maybe the reflection of the sun of the whale’s body, a tail or the breach.

Whale Watching

The Great Barrier Reef is a breeding area from July to November for humpback whales, migrating from the Antarctic and is also the habitat of a few endangered species including the Dugong (Sea Cow) and large Green Sea Turtle. In recognition of its significance, UNESCO listed the Great Barrier Reef as a World Heritage Site in 1981.
To see the Whales in the Bay is not simply watching large objects floating in the water. As said before humpbacks are the most playful & acrobatic of all the big Whales. They can be seen laying on there side “pec-slapping”, raising their large pectoral fins straight out of the water & slapping it hard against the surface. They are often seen swimming like this, passing vessels close-by.

Fraser Island

World Heritage-listed Fraser Island is a rare and beautiful holiday destination, at the start of the Great Barrier Reef, offering a refreshing change from the hustle of mainland Australia and the resort islands of Queensland’s north.
Fraser island is a place of exceptional beauty, with its long uninterrupted white beaches flanked by strikingly coloured sand cliffs, and over 100 freshwater lakes, some tea-coloured and others clear and blue all ringed by white sandy beaches. Ancient rainforests grow in sand along the banks of fast-flowing, crystal-clear creeks.

Reef fishing

It doesn’t matter if you own your own fishing boat, have a friend who owns a fishing boat or if you don’t have access to a fishing boat at all. There is plenty of great fishing in Hervey Bay where boats are not required (piers, rock walls, beaches, rivers etc…).
Hervey Bay is truly blessed with some of the best fishing locations in Queensland, indeed it’s up there with some of the best fishing in the country. The fishing here is so good, that Hervey Bay is often featured on Weekend Television lifestyle programs, such as Escape With ET and Rex Hunt’s Fishing Adventures. Did you know Hervey Bay has an artificial reef, originally constructed in 1968, named the Roy Rufus Artificial Reef. This reef has become home to some Hervey Bays finest fish species and as a result, the fishing over the reef isn’t bad either! Since the fish have made it their home there is generally a great chance of landing something wonderful for the dinner table.
